Yasemin Somuncu graduated from the Middle East Technical University Faculty of Architecture in 1994 ranking first. At Mimerya Mimarlık which she co-founded after graduation, she brought to life many projects and applications. In 2002, she did her master’s degree on Environment and Energy at the Architectural Association (AA) in London, UK.
In 2002, she worked together with the Head of AA Department of Environment and Energy Dr. Simos Yannas, Françoise Summers from Middle East Technical University Faculty of Architecture, Nevin Gezer and Ömer Tuğrul Karagüzel in the UK-Turkey Joint Programme supported by British Council titled “Environmental Performances of Structures: A Comparative Study on Building Materials and Construction Methods in Turkey”. In the PLEA 2003 Conference in Santiago, Chile, she published her article titled “Comparation of Traditional and Modern Construction Works in Turkey”. She has been acting as a senior researcher in Özyeğin University Center for Energy, Environment and Economy since March 2012. She has an active role in the projects of New Energy Efficient Demonstration for Buildings (NEED4B) and Energy Reduction in Public Building Stock (BRICKER) supported by the EU 7th Framework Programme. She is conducting the project of Capacity Increase for the Constructors of the Future / New Generation within the scope of CFCU.
Her published articles are respectively as follows: “Dimension of Energy Efficiency and New Istanbul towards 2050”, “A Campus with Green Ideas: Özyeğin University Çekmeköy Campus”, “Concept of Energy Efficiency Cycle for New Buildings”, “Parabolic Through (PTC) Application for a Hospital Building”, “Integrated Engineering and Architecture for New & Energy-Efficient Academic Buildings” and “A Short Discussion on Energy Efficiency Certificates for Buildings”. In the spring semester of 2016-2017, she acted as the construction and execution partner in lessons of Sustainable Energy, Material and Systems, ME409 / 509 and IMSAD – Özyeğin University Joint and Post Graduate. She is a founding member of the Yavaş Gıda Association and a member of the Bütün Çocuklar Bizim Association.
