Founding director Özyeğin University Center for Energy, Environment and Economy (EÇEM)

Prof. Dr. M. Pınar Mengüç is the founding director of Özyeğin University Center for Energy, Environment and Economy (EÇEM) and head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. After receiving his PhD in 1985 from Purdue University, USA, he served for 25 years at Kentucky University (UK). In 2008, he was named as the Engineering Alumni Association Professor at the University of Kentucky (UK) and went on to join Özyeğin University.

Be it macro, micro or nano-scale, Prof. Mengüç has actualized innovative and lasting studies throughout his career. Mengüç, who has by now worked with more than 60 students of post-graduate, doctorate and post-doctorate, has more than 130 scientific journals and more than 200 conference papers. Mengüç has given more than 130 invited/keynote speeches throughout the world and has two books and five patents. The 6th edition of his book Thermal Radiation Heat Transfer was published in 2016. In addition, Prof. Mengüç has been acting as one of the three editors-in-chief of the Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer (JQSRT) published by Elsevier since 2006.

Prof. Mengüç’s studies on nano-scale measuring, processing and energy mix in the last 20 years have been supported by the NSF USA, NIH, DOE, European Union and TUBITAK. His studies of energy efficiency across buildings, cities and industries conducted in Turkey since 2010 have been supported by the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme (four projects), EU Horizon 2020 Programme (two projects) and NSF USA. In the light of these projects, EÇEM continues to support architects and engineers in their contribution to the development of interdisciplinary concepts and processes of innovative energy mixing.

In 2016, Prof. Mengüç was elected to the Science Academy of Turkey.

05/10/2018 11:00 05/10/2018 12:00 The Social and Behavioural Aspects of Energy Use
Due to the fact that recent active systems increase the means of control and learn the preferences of the people and present them with various comforting facilities thanks to their interactive interfaces and mobile apps, the interaction between these systems and the users has increased immensely. In parallel with this development, works in the field of energy efficiency in buildings focusing on human behaviour have developed in a manner that it will include new aspects such as data analysis, system/product design, ergonomics, comfort and health and are today being constantly referred to as “human-building interaction”. This event will focus on how the innovative system and concepts being developed for human-building interaction shape the behaviour of the user and how it can encourage good behaviour in terms of energy efficiency. *In Cooperation with EÇEM
