Gökhan Karakuş studied architecture history and theory at Columbia University and Vassar College. Karakuş, who is the author of " Turkish Touch on Design" (2007) and "Turkish Architecture Now" (2009) books, works as architecture critic, theorist and designer. The main subjects related to his profession are locality and modernism in design, architecture and urbanism. He worked as a nominator and supervisor for Ağa Han Architecture Awards and Mies van der Rohe European Contemporary Architecture Awards. He taught at Istanbul Technical University, Bilgi University and Politecnico di Milano. The subjects he is currently working on are the monographs of Beirut architect Nabil Gholam and Turkish designer Tanju Özgren, advanced design research on architectural strategies for buildings in slum areas, and computerized design integration of medieval Islamic architecture mathematics.
