Dr. Duygu Erten holds an MS degree in Civil Engineering. She worked as a professional manager for years before she chose to become an entrepreneur and committed herself to the service of civil society. Thanks to her contributions to the global sustainability movement, she was awarded the “World Green Building Council President’s Award” by the World Green Building Council in 2012; and the “Women in Sustainability Leadership Award” (WSLA), granted by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and Women in Sustainability Leadership Alumnae Group, for founding TURKECO.
 
After she graduated from Boğaziçi University, Department of Civil Engineering, she received her MS degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering in USA, and became a licensed Civil Engineer (PE). She earned a degree from the Public Health in Sustainability Leadership Program at Harvard University, and she worked as a part of the research staff at Princeton University. After she returned to Turkey, she held the position of Director of the Clinton Foundation’s Climate Change Initiative under the C40 project, mainly responsible for the energy efficiency in public buildings and ESCO market.
 
Dr. Erten is accredited by all of the most prestigious green building/settlement systems, such as LEED, BREEAM, DGNB, CEEQUAL, and True Waste.

She served as an executive specializing in “Buildings and Waste” under the “Project for Monitoring and Increasing the Capacity Towards Achieving the Greenhouse Gas Intended Nationally Determined Contribution.” She is also the first entrepreneur to receive funding for the “Green Mortgage” projects as a part of Horizon 2020 program.

Under Dr. Erten’s leadership, Turkish Green Building Council was founded in October 2007, and she served there as the president and vice president. Between 2014-2016, she became the first Turkish citizen to be elected as a Board Member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). In 2018, Erten was elected as a member of the Sustainability Council under Urban Land Institute (ULI-Europe).

Dr. Erten is currently a member of various organizations, such as ULI, TTDM, USGBC, EPEA, ISWA, ÇEDBİK, ASCE, and Chamber of Civil Engineers. She also gave lectures on Sustainability and Civil Society Organizations at several universities such as USC, Koç, Sabancı, Boğaziçi, İTÜ, Özyeğin, and Medipol University.
