Doğan Hasol was born in 1937. He graduated from Galatasaray High School in 1956 and İTÜ Faculty of Architecture in 1961. In 1961, he joined the community of the magazine Architecture and Art. In addition to serving as an assistant at Istanbul Technical University, he also served as the editor of Architecture, a magazine by the Chamber of Architects. He took on various tasks in the boards of the Chamber of Architects. Together with a group of friends, he founded the Building Information Centre (YEM), an information centre in the field of building. He was elected the president (two times: 1989-92, 1992-95) and later on, honorary member of International Union of Building Centres – UICB.

Acting as the CEO of the Building Information Centre until April 2013, he led the organization of courses, conferences, seminars, foundation of the Virtual Architecture Museum and publication of vocational catalogues and books of architecture and art (primarily YAPI Magazine and YAPI Catalogue) in line with the information centre qualities of the foundation. He was given the 1994/95 Press Award by Turkish Association of Architects in Private Practice. Once again in line with the information centre understanding, he led the way for the initiation and development of YAPI exhibitions as the first exhibition of expertise in Turkey.

He won awards and mentions in various architectural contests and acted as a member of the jury in national and international contests. Together with his wife Hayzuran Hasol who is also an architect, he was given the 1990 National Architecture Award by the Chamber of Architects in the field of “Building”. He continues with his freelance architecture studies within the body of Has Mimarlık, founded by Doğan Hasol together with his wife and daughter who are both architects.

He was given honorary degrees by Istanbul Technical University in 1998, Yıldız Technical University in 1999 and Istanbul Kültür University in 2012, the Contribution to the Profession Award by the Chamber of Architects in 2000 and Turkish Association of Architects in Private Practice and Honorary Awards by Beykent University in the field of architecture in 2007 and by Hürriyet in 2015 within the scope of SotCA Awards.

In the conference he has prepared in light of his new book in which he seeks answers to the question “is there architecture in Turkey?”, Doğan Hasol demonstrates a hundred years of change and development in Turkey’s architecture with 190 structures by approximately 150 architects, many awarded. He chronologically lists Turkey’s architecture in line with the movements and periods while also including the period before the founding of the Republic. And finally, in light of all these findings, he evaluates and comments on the current state of Turkey’s architecture. Afterwards, the author will sign his acclaimed book “20th Century Turkish Architecture”. *In cooperation with YEM Bookstore
