Achim Menges

Achim Menges

Founding Director Institute for Computational Design and Construction

Menges (Frankfurt); is one of the most recognizable names who integrates emerging BIM and robotic applications into his works. His name that can be interesting to listen due to his future predictions of architecture when it is thought that architecture, design and application processes in the global sense supported almost entirely by technology.

Menges is a founding director of the Institute for Computational Design and Construction since 2008. He was also a visiting lecturer at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design from 2009-2015.

Achim Menges is known for his efforts to melt technology and design in the same pot. With the references he receives from nature, he uses robot technology to design and manufacture. Menges is working on the development of integrated design processes at the intersection of algorithmic design, biomimetic engineering and computer aided manufacturing. His research projects have been published, exhibited and received numerous international awards worldwide.

05/09/2018 14:00 05/09/2018 15:00 Transforming Architecture – Computational Design & Construction Computation profoundly transforms most industries. Achim Menges will introduce ways of tapping the full potential of digital technologies in architecture and construction by going beyond the mere digitalisation of established planning procedures and the automation of existing construction processes towards truly integrative computational design and construction. Along a number of pilot projects, he will show how digital technologies offer possibilities for new approaches to computationally designed and robotically fabricated architecture that is more efficient, expressive, economical, and ecological.
