YAPI Turkeybuild Istanbul, Turkey’s biggest, oldest and best building exhibition, opened today.
850 exhibitors are showcasing their brands to tens of thousands of visitors at the TUYAP Fair and Congress Centre.
It is looking to be a busy show – advance registrations have risen strongly from last year, showing the health of Turkey’s building sector and YAPI Turkeybuild’s status as its must-attend event. With strong representation from across Turkey as well as exhibitors from 16 other countries, YAPI Turkeybuild is a hub not just for Turkey but for the surrounding region as well.
Speaking at the show’s opening ceremony was Ferdi Erdoğan, President of IMSAD, the Turkish building material producers’ association. “In 2017, the Turkish economy grew 7.4%, with construction growing 8.9% to $146 billion. Two thirds of this growth was in building materials, with $17.3 billion in building materials exports – this has become the catalyst of the Turkish economy.”
Ahead of cutting the ribbon with other VIPs and heading on a tour of the show floor, Mr Erdoğan also spoke about some of the trends driving growth in Turkey’s construction and building materials industry. “Design and research & development are driving innovation – there are 854 R&D centres and 192 design centres in Turkey. As we move from a conventional style of construction to a performance-driven one, research and development will work hand in hand (with the industry).”
With Turkey importing 75% of its power, energy efficiency is another key part of the sector, according to Mr Erdoğan, while urban transformation and noise pollution reduction as a companion to railway development are other areas moving Turkish construction forward.
It has certainly been a strong start for Turkish construction in 2018 so far. Following a healthy 8.9% growth in 2017, with the country’s building sector has grown 9.7 points in the first part of 2018. Now, YAPI Turkeybuild Istanbul is set to capitalise on this growth, attracting more visitors and promoting more business in the building sector.
There’s also a strong event programme at the show this year. International architects, technical seminars, award ceremonies – YAPI Turkeybuild has it all. Visitors on the first day can look forward to talks on waste management and street view creation, as well as a high-powered Building Industry Agenda Forum, with speakers from the top level of Turkish construction.
YAPI Turkeybuild runs from 10:00 to 19:00 (until 18:00 on 12 May) – get your complimentary visitor pass here and head to the TUYAP fair and congress centre.
